Fundraising : annual campaign for supporting the Claroline project

Since its creation in 2001, the Claroline platform has been growing steadily throughout the world. This fast growth certainly results from the simplicity and user-friendliness of Claroline, but also from the fact that it is free of charge.

However, if the platform can be downloaded for free, it doesn't mean that it costs nothing. The coordination of the developments and the users’ community, which ensures the platform durability, has a cost. And this cost is increasing with the enlargement of the community and its needs.

If the voluntary intervention of many people and the specific support of the Claroline Consortium members allow to cover a large part of the expenses, the Claroline project has reached a size that requires the setting up of a permanent team at the service of users and contributors.

We would like to appeal to you to participate to this first annual campaign and help us ensure the financing of this coordination team.

Why do we organize an annual fundraising campaign?

The objective of this campaign is to focus on the means needed to develop an open source project like Claroline. If it is obvious that we need funds permanently, this event is an opportunity for us to make our users aware of it.

What is the financial target for this campaign?

The budget covering the payment of five persons and the related operating expenses is estimated at about 350 000€ annually. To be practical, we have estimated that if every institution using Claroline contributes to the project by an annual payment of 0,25 € per user, we would quickly achieve the budget covering. This estimation is given as reference; you are of course free to support the project the way you want.

How does Claroline contribute to spread knowledge?

Proposed in open source, the Claroline platform is an efficient tool for spreading and sharing educational resources, and making them available to the great majority of people.

Claroline is also a major tool for the development of the pedagogy around the world. Open to every discipline and translated into more than 30 languages, it contributes to establish a real teaching community who learns and develops by sharing experiences.

The Claroline project strengthens theses exchanges through its Official Campus: an open platform where every teacher with an Internet connexion can create and share online courses.

By supporting the Claroline project, you will give us the means to carry on our mission: improving teaching quality and encouraging the access to knowledge for everyone.

Receipt, list of donors and results

A certificate of donation will be sent to you soon after the receipt of your donation. This certificate doesn’t give right to tax deduction for natural persons. Subject to your agreement, your contribution will be mentioned in the section “Thanks to our contributors” on the Claroline website.
The Claroline Consortium will regularly present the results of the campaign on the same website.

How do we protect donor's privacy?

The personal information collected from our donors during this campaign will only be used by the Claroline Consortium for internal purposes. We will not publish your name in the list of donors without your agreement.

How to help Claroline in different ways?

If you don’t want to support the project financially, you can help the Claroline team in different ways: translation, development, promotion, feedback… We always need a helping hand.
