For Claroline, 2008 was a year of strengthening and hard thinking : strengthening for the Consortium that will soon accept new full members ; hard thinking about the future of the Claroline platform, considering the results of the ACCU held in Vigo and Montpellier. Nevertheless, it does not prevent the developers from offering a 1.9 version meeting various users’ requests.

2009 is therefore starting under favourable auspices and we already ask you to book the period from May 18th to 20th for ACCU 2009. The conference will be held in Brussels and be fully dedicated to the future of Claroline, a real opportunity to present your requests, to share your points of view, to build the tool you are dreaming about  together.

Looking forward to this annual meeting, the members of the Consortium and the developers’ teams wish the whole Claroline community a great year 2009, rich in challenges and success.

The second release candidate for Claroline 1.9 is available for testing. This version includes the upgrade process from Claroline 1.8 to Claroline 1.9 and fixes a lot of bugs founds in the first release candidates. We have also added new translations provided by the community.

This version should still not be considered as stable and therefore must not be used in production.

You are invited to test it and report any bug or suggestion on the Claroline forum.

The Université Catholique de Louvain opens 2 full time and one part time job opportunities and one to develop its virtual campus iCampus and the Claroline platform.

Those people will work in the Institut de pédagogie universitaire et des multimédias (IPM) in Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium.

The European Federation for Open and Distance Learning (EFODL) organizes his seminar 2008 in Charleroi (La Géode), on the 1rst and 2nd october. The theme is « e-learning 2.0 : a second life for e-learning ».

Claroline 1.9 development reaches the last steps before stable with this first release candidate.  A lot of bugs notified by the community have been fixed.  The platform API are also freezed so if you plan to develop or update a module (tool, applet, admin tool) for Claroline 1.9 you can start safely from now.

Please even if we made a big job on bugs fixes you should still not considered this version as stable and therefore you must not use it in production.

The AWT (Agence Wallonne des Télécommunications) published a new article about Claroline on their Technology, Information and Communication portal.

This paper contains an interview of Marcel Lebrun about the birthand the philosophy of the project and another interview of Philippe Dekimpe about the main assets of Claroline.

Cooperation-iws is an Open Source intranet nomad web server that relies on Live CD/USB persistent technology. It offers web services of Open Source web applications like Claroline.  The aim of CIWS is to take with you on a usb key or usb hard drive your eLearning portal. You then just need a pc for the server which is connected to clients with an Intranet LAN.

Cooperation-iws has recently been released in version 0.3.2 with Claroline as new module.
