Last step before the stable release scheduled to the beginning of September. This release includes scripts to upgrade from claroline 1.7 (and older) to 1.8, bugs fixes and improvements.

Next steps for the Claroline Team:

• Try upgrade on our production platforms
• Test campaign of each tools (to report and fix last bugs)
• Review English and French translations, and rebuild the files with the missing translations for the others languages

Continuing its development process, Claroline 1.8 has now been released as in Beta stage. Among other things, this release will include a new module administration, a new default WYSIWYG editor(TinyMCE), User rights and profiles administration, an indexed search engine,support of the IMS-QTI 2.0 standard,...

Thanks to the Claroline community for all the feedback received since the alpha release, it is more than 60 bugfixes and improvements that this new version contains. We invite you now to thoroughly test this new beta version.

Warning ! This beta version is not aimed for production use, only for test.

After one year of intense development, shared experiences and feedbacks within the Claroline community, we are proud to announce the release of Claroline 1.8 alpha.

This release, full of promising new features, (User right managements, search engine, module creations, exercise import/export, ...) can now be tested :

You are invited to test it and report your opinion and feedbacks in the Claroline forum.

Do not use this version for production yet, this is just an alpha release.

Claroline 1.7.7 provides significant security improvement and repairs a security flaw remaining in the previous version.

The Claroline development team has implemented a new protection system rising the general security level of the platform one step further. This new protection system should prevent any input injection even on web servers where PHP is unproperly configured, like register globals set to ON.

In addition this release also provides some new translations and minor bug fixes.

The two days of conferences and workshops with Claroline users and experts from more than 7 different countries are now over.

Developers, trainers, administrators as well as training managers and e-learning experts or decision makers could talk and exchange their experience with Claroline for this first event that was a great success.

The last version of Claroline 1.7 is publicly available.

This new version comprises :

• Fixes for all security holes found recently.
• A new translation, the Czech.
• Improvments of Dutch, Italian and Greek translations.
• A new set of nice layouts including one corporate layout designed by Laurent Colet in the context of an internship at Cerdecam Research Center (Brussels).
• And other minor bug fixes.

We recommend to all administrators to apply the advices for the security of claroline platform.

The complete list of the awaited speakers for the ACCU2006 is now online on the conference website. We are expecting people from various countries to come and share their experiences with Claroline during these 2 promising days of workshops and sessions in Louvain-la-Neuve.

Several security holes have just been detected in Claroline 1.7.* and 1.6.*

Platform Claroline 1.7.* running PHP in register_globals off or allow_url_fopen off are not vulnerable.

We seriously advise all people using Claroline 1.6 or PHP with register_globals configuration enabled to patch their platform as soon as possible.

How to apply the patch

• Uncompress the zip archive file 'claroline.patch1**01.zip'.
• Copy the 'claroline' directory found inside that archive on the 'claroline' directory already available on your web server.

Folder and poster with the description of the ACCU2006 have been prepared by Laurent Colet from the Cerdecam, for people who would like to promote the event in their own establishment or institution.

While almost all the speakers are found for the ACCU, we are waiting people from Belgium, Canada, France, Greece, Morocco, Spain,... to speak about various experiences in using Claroline.
