At the end of year 2010, Columbia University School of Law joined Claroline Consortium as full members. We present hereunder the interview of Conrad C. Johnson explaining why they choosed Claroline.

"We first began working with Claroline in connection with a project we completed for New York's Chief Judge.  The Chief Judge asked our clinic, the Lawyering in the Digital Age Clinic at Columbia Law School, to assist her in finding effective methods for training New York's Town and Village Justices.  New York is a very large state geographically and there are more than 2,000 town and village justices in need of training. Obviously, online education seemed in order. We reviewed a wide variety of both proprietary and open source learning management systems. Claroline was clearly best suited for the project.

Soon thereafter, we began using Claroline as the learning management system for our clinic.  Claroline's focus on pedagogy is at the heart of our choice.  Claroline combines an unparalleled variety of useful educational features with a user-friendly design. In so doing, teachers, students and our lawyering partners can concentrate on learning and not waste time adapting to some inflexible platform. Our introduction to the Claroline community convinced us that Claroline's leadership is committed to further developing a uniquely useful learning tool.  Thus far, we have successfully used Claroline as the platform of choice for our clinic students and in connection with projects involving judicial education in New York and preparation for law school nationally.  We expect that Claroline's flexible functionality will be useful to us in connection with many other projects in the future. "

This release resolves a bug to select a category at the course creation.  This bug happends only on specific configuration.

On February 11th, a seminar dealing with the use of Claroline will be held at UQAT, University of Quebec in Abitibi-Temiscamingue.

This release should be considered as a pre-version. It should absolutely not be considered as stable and therefore should not be use in production.  The upgrade is available but only for test.

The Training Centre of Ethias, one of the most insurance companies in Belgium, decided to install Claroline as training platform for its staff.

Through this platform, they intend to promote experience sharing, to favour the development of competencies, to sensibilize the employees to their role in managing their employability and to highligth the experts. The platform will also facilitate communication between all stakeholders and training supervision.

They said too that the attractivity of Claroline is also due to its userfriendliness and its simplicity of implementation.

The Claroline development team has just released Claroline 1.9.7.

This release notably includes a new LDAP authentication driver, an activation for groups of modules added to a course tools list, and the possibility to see previous changes, from a given date, on the platform and course homepages.

Claroline 1.9.7 also contains new minor features, translation updates and fixes for bugs.

It is highly recommended to upgrade your platform to this new release.

The Claroline development team has just released Claroline 1.9.8.

This release notably includes a generation of event on new assignment or exercise (must be activated in configuration), an option to allow users to unregister from inactive, pending, expired or unpublished courses .

Claroline 1.9.8 also contains new minor features, translation updates and fixes for bugs.

It is highly recommended to upgrade your platform to this new release.
