Claroline 1.6 - New Features Highlights

The Claroline team is proud to announce the official release of Claroline 1.6. The new Claroline version is a major release. After a tremendous work of Quality Assurance process, the application had certainly never reach this level of powerfulness, stability and consistency.

The new features in 1.6

Assignment tool

New assignment tool deal with :

planned work sessions.
automatically close or open assignments uploads.
time planning. (start date and end date)
give a personalized (or automatic) feedback to any work session submission.
work content can be text, file or text and file.

Document tool

new image gallery
internal search fonctionnality

Exercise tool

Improved exercise tool deal with :

time planning. (start date, end date and duration)
optional attempts limit for each user.
multimedia files. (pictures,documents, flash animations, videos, sounds, ... )
flash mp3 player.

Campus administration tool

Improved campus administration tool deal with classes and import csv files.

Classes

organise your users by groups (classes) and subgroups on your campus.
create a whole class tree that fits to your organisation scheme.
subscribe a whole class to a course at once.

Massive import

massive import with CSV files in the user list of the administration tool.
create a new class right form your CSV file.
import users in a specific course within the user tool.

Configuration files edition

New configuration files editor allowing easy customization of the campus and of the tool parameters.

define which values are required for the creation of new courses.
set the disk space limit of the documents and links tool.
select which values are required in user profiles
choose the number of posts displayed per forum page
...

Using a new architecture to deal with the configuration files, Claroline is now able to integrate new configuration parameters (or hide any) in this interface. According to the Community test, parameters could be added or deleted in this place for the forthcoming Claroline 1.6 stable version.

Tracking

Improved tracking and statistics :

exercises.
forum (records messages).
option to erase all statistics of a course.

Translation

New translation files simplify the process to add or update language interface of the claroline system.

In development version : use of a single file with all the translations.
In stable version : the development file is splitted in many files to increase performance.

Layout personalisation

Claroline code has been adapted to a more intensive use of a CSS stylesheet. This makes it easier, and without any code change, for anyone to modify the appearance (color, style, logo,..) of new Claroline campus installed.

View mode

A view mode switcher has been added allowing teachers to see their courses as simple students do.

External authentication system

New external authentication system provides methods to authenticate user from a significant number of systems (LDAP servers, 14 databases from Oracle to ODBC, POP3 servers, IMAP servers, vpopmail accounts, RADIUS, SAMBA password files and SOAP). This feature improves the integration of Claroline into your existing computer network environment.

Single Sign On (SSO) system

Single Sign On (SSO) system enabling users, once logged into claroline, to connect to all other websites session without the need of physically enter repetitive usernames and passwords. This feature allows to smoothly associate Claroline into your institution Portals.
