The 4th Annual Conference of Claroline Users has been closed on May 20th, 2009. The participants came home, tired but happy of these days spent together to build Claroline for the future, always more attentive to the user’s needs, but also with the same objectives of simplicity, suppleness and stability. Thanks to all participants for the quality of exchanges and the friendliness of these moments. The work started during the conference is now going to continue in next weeks, using a dedicated Claroline platform.
Conference had opened with a communication of Florence Meichel entitled “Learning in digital age: from LMS to learning environment”. We invite you to read the very good synthesis written by Michel Berhin on the blog “Apprendre 2.0” (Follow the link ).
Next year, the conference will be held in Rimouski (Canada) where we shall be received by the University of Quebec.

As the release manager of Claroline 1.9, I am very glad to announce that Claroline 1.9.0 is available for download after many months of intense work and many changes in the development team. You can dowload it here (Zip 5,4 Mo) .
This new stable version of the Claroline Open Source LMS comes with a lot of new features : a user desktop, an internal messaging system, a templating system for the display... Many parts of the code have been refactored or completely rewritten for this release. The upgrade from Claroline 1.7 or 1.8 is available. As it was announced the support of PHP 4 as been dropped and the platform now requires PHP 5.1.6 and or PHP 5.2.x (recommended). You can read the complete changelog on our wiki.
You can post any issue or ask for help with Claroline 1.9 on the support forum.
It is now time for the module developers to start to test and adapt their modules for new platform and for translators to complete the language files. Thanks in advance.
I will now be replaced by Dimitri Rambout who will be the release and
maintenance manager for the rest of the lifecycle of Claroline 1.9
I'd like to thanks all the people who have made this release
possible by contributing code, reporting bugs and security issues,
providing translations, testing the application... I also want to thank
all the members of the Claroline Core Development Team who have
worked very hard to provide you with this new stable version.
