 The INWI company, in collaboration with the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and the Ecole Centrale de Lyon, developed a new extension under GPL license which adds multimedia capabilites to Claroline so that teachers can easily publish, manage and share audio and video podcasts in various formats.
Inwicast Mediacenter can manage uploaded podcasts as well as videos hosted on distant servers like Youtube, Google Video or Dailymotion.
 The INWI company also offers, in addition to this tool, the Inwicast Publisher software designed to record podcasts, videocasts, screencasts and Powerpoint presentations with audio and video comments. Inwicast Publisher allows to record and publish podcasts for Claroline. Check out the free trial on the Claroline demo website.

 Claroline is one of the three finalist projects in the Education category, with Chronojump and Scenari.
The Trophées du Libre contest is organised by Cetril, with the support of various partners, and rewards innovative free softwares in six categories.
Mathieu Laurent will present the Claroline project in front of the jury at Soissons (France), on November 29.

 The Claroline team is proud to announce a new release of the Claroline 1.8 stable version.
As always, bug fixes, refactoring, new features. We've got it all.
The major modifications are :
- Improvement of the import/export of learning path and exercises.
- Possibility to use a secure SMTP.
- Improvement of single sign-on system : Shibboleth and CAS.
- Integration of Claroline with LCS communication server (fr).
- Several bugs correction with the browser internet explorer 7.
Go and Download Claroline 1.8.7.
Note : We invite any people currently using old Claroline 1.8 to upgrade their platform to this minor release.

 The Claroline team organizes the Claroline Users day at the Carrefour numérique of the Cité des sciences in Paris (France) on December 5th, 2007.
The meeting is an opportunity for users and devlopers to meet and
exchange their experience using the Claroline platform, and to raise
questions about the evolution of Claroline.

 The Claroline team is proud to present the new web video conference module. This module allows you to integrate the video conference tool dimdim into Claroline.
Dimdim is a web opensource tool including advanced collaboration features (audio, video, text, desktop sharing, virtual worlds, etc.) so that anyone can easily and instantly interact with anyone else, without having to download a specialized software.
This Claroline module can be installed in your platform administration. Every teacher can schedule one or several conferences with the conference tool of their course. The students can join the conference with the same tool.
By default, the module will use the free edition hosted by dimidim.com. That will allow you to test the tool directly without any installation.
If you want to, you can also install dimdim on your server. The hosting web video conference dimdim server is opensource, you can download it on the website dimdim.com.

 As announced before, the Annual conference of Claroline users 2008 is invited by the Université du Québec (UQAR), Canada.
To help the organisation, the UQUAR proposes to survey the Claroline community. It is only in French for the moment, but it will be translated soon.
Once you are on the platform, choose the trimester "Automne 2007", and log in with user account and password : accu2008.

 The Claroline project is the winner of the 2007 UNESCO-King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of ICT in Education. The other laureate is the American project Curriki.
The laureates were chosen from among 68 projects from 51 countries.
The Director-General of UNESCO will present the prize - a diploma and US$25,000 each - to the two laureates in a ceremony at Organization Headquarters on 19 December.
Congratulations to the whole Claroline community.

 The Claroline team published a new user manual in French for Claroline 1.8, based on the online documentation.
Updated and illustrated, the manual is available in 3 versions : student, teacher and administrator.
